Packet Tracer is a great tool, and can be a valuable alternative to VIRL, but there are also limitations to it. A great challenge would be to create a scenario that in VIRL would take several minutes, but in Packet Tracer would only take one. Using Packet Tracer, a user can connect to the topology of an Arbor or BEA network simulator, and utilize their software’s built-in CLI to fire up nodes or simulate applications, and observe how those applications behave.
A quick Google search will yield more than three thousand Packet Tracer related web pages, and while I was only able to find about a dozen that offered academic courses related to Packet Tracer, the rest are primarily focused on Packet Tracer’s commercial use. There are likely many Cisco Packet Tracer download free users that are unaware of the wide range of options that are available, and what they can do with Packet Tracer.
When I first began writing about Packet Tracer, I found many people with great insights and opinions on Packet Tracer, but few instructional materials on how to use it, and what it could do. So, it’s a bit disappointing to find few courses on Packet Tracer and the simulators, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t academic offerings!

The version of the script in the package 7.3.0 will not be the last version of packettracer.
I’ve been using the script of version 8.0-1 in the first part of this thread.
For example, I’ve tested the package with the command makepkg -si at my home computer.
I have changed the values of some options in the script (ex: QT_DEVICE_PIXEL_AUTO and QT_DEVICE_PIXEL_RATIO).
Then I have made a new installation of packettracer at my office computer.
And I have tested packettracer with the script of 7.3.0.
The results were much better than with the script 8.0-1 (ex: 1920×1200 displayed as 1280×720).
Furthermore, after each change in the script, it was necessary to do a new installation of packettracer.
With version 8.0-1 of the script in the package, it was no longer necessary to do an installation of packettracer after each change in the script.
So, I would like to continue to make new versions of the script, provided that the script is reproducible, accessible to a simple user with a text editor and as small as possible.
Finally, I think that the script of version 8.0-1 is the best option for those who installed the script 8.0-1 with makepkg.
But the script 8.0-1, of version 8.0-1, is the best solution for those who installed packettracer with the 7.3.0 PKGBUILD.
The PKGBUILD of 7.3.0 does not install a script at /etc/profile.d.
